1. I am honoured to have been appointed Labor’s Shadow Assistant Minister for Families and Communities. This portfolio plays such a crucial role in tackling inequality and social disadvantage. It is an area of government policy that directly impacts the lives of almost every Australian. A mark of society is how it treats its most vulnerable. Labor has always fought to establish the social infrastructure that protects our most vulnerable, and builds and strengthens our communities. It is a legacy I will work to defend and build on as part of the Shorten Labor team.

2. Patrick Deegan, Labor’s candidate for Page, and I recently met with early childhood educators in Casino at Jumbunna Pre-school and Early Intervention Centre and the Baptist Community Pre-School as part of National Child Protection week. It was fantastic to hear about the incredible work they do supporting children and their families.

In Labor,
